Mystery Team Review NH Film Festival

Sunday, October 26, 2008

Shootin videoOkay, so it's about time I threw down a Mystery Team Review from our trip to the NH Film Festival.

For those of you who haven't heard of it, it's one of those absurd scenario types of movies where the entire world is normal except for the main characters, who happen to be over-the-top nerdy do-gooders (see: Brady Bunch movies).

The movie was fun, as was the premise, and I think overall they did a good job.  The only thing that I expected was a little better comedic timing.  From the trailer, the way it's cut it looks to be laugh out loud funny... and while I think it was certainly amusing, I think in many cases the punchline of a joke or scneario was a little too quick - sometimes what makes something really absurd really funny is the pause in dialogue.

The film was shot really well, though there seemed to be some sort of "glow" or softness about it.  I'm not sure why this was done, but I found it slightly distracting - this film was apparently shot with the RED camera.  I get gooey just thinking about this equipment.

I'd have to say this was definitely a film to see if you're looking for something a little different done by guys who aren't using a hollywood studio budget.  Not one for the kids, however. :)

Also, on a side note:  I've added new photos of my backyard project - the dirt is in, now I just need a frost season and I'll be good to build that bar next spring!!

OFFICIAL REVIEW: The Hunger Games

On a whim I decided to go to the movies last night. As I browsed Fandango looking for something to watch, I noticed the overwhelming amount of press that The Hunger Games was getting.
